Aykon Phase II – ITM Monitoring win 3-year contract extension on new Vauxhall tower
Following a highly successful demolition phase on the Versace-branded building, ITM Monitoring has been awarded the successive construction monitoring contract on Aykon London One by DAMAC Properties.
The demolition phase of the project saw removal of the existing self-storage warehouse and office accommodation occupying the site. ITM installed a range of instrumentation including Automated Total Stations (ATS), electrolevel beams and vibration sensors to monitor the effects of demolition on the surrounding structures and rail web. The automated instrumentation was accompanied by precise manual monitoring surveys with all data displayed in ITM’s Calyx online data visualisation platform.
Edward Lumley, Senior Project Manager at Turner & Townsend commented,
Working to Network Rail’s strict monitoring requirements and in line with WSP’s geotechnical guidance, ITM’s professional approach was key to the successful monitoring of the work site.
The Aykon development boundary lies centimetres away from the 170 year old Vauxhall railway viaduct and will house a double-level basement beneath both new multi-storey towers.
During the construction phase ITM will install additional electrolevel beams within the viaduct arches as well as inclinometers within the pile walls to closely monitor the movement of the ground and surrounding structures from excavation through to completion.
