SOCOTEC continues international expansion with four more acquisitions

The SOCOTEC Group, a major player in risk management and trusted partner to its client companies, continued its expansion with four acquisitions in the first four months of 2018: AJA Registrars Group, based in Asia, ITM in the UK, PSP in Germany and Axe QSE in Morocco.

On 20 March, the SOCOTEC Group acquired AJA Registrars Group, a specialist in management system certification with revenue of €6 million. Set up in 1995, the company has six subsidiaries in Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Hong Kong, the UK and the USA. This acquisition boosts the SOCOTEC Certification International network, which already had five subsidiaries in France, Japan, the Philippines, the UK and Singapore. Like all of SOCOTEC’s certification companies, AJA Registrars holds accreditations from the countries where it is established, as well as JAZ/ANZ(1) accreditation.

The acquisition significantly increases the SOCOTEC Group’s certification business, taking its revenue to €17 million on the back of strong operations in Singapore, where SOCOTEC becomes the leading player in certification. It also adds three new locations to the network: Bangkok, Hong Kong, and Orlando, Florida.

SOCOTEC UK is the Group’s largest European base outside France and the UK leader in TIC(2) in the construction and infrastructure sectors. The subsidiary strengthened its offering in Infrastructure & Energy by acquiring ITM on 1 March (revenue: €5 million). ITM specialises in instrumentation for monitoring civil engineering structures and detecting any effects on infrastructure caused by natural phenomena or nearby works.

In Germany, on 26 April, PSP Tunnelling GmbH joined SOCOTEC’s ZPP subsidiary, which was acquired in October 2017. Founded in 1969, PSP is a company of consulting engineers for road and rail tunnels, tunnel boring machines and foundations. It is based in Munich and generates revenue of €2 million. Its expertise in design verification, works supervision and inspections broadens ZPP’s expertise in linear infrastructure as well as its presence in Bavaria.

SOCOTEC Morocco, which has a longstanding presence in the country with eight establishments and 100 employees, has broadened its expertise in Environment & Safety through acquiring Casablanca-based Axe QSE. The company’s team of four experts offers services in environmental regulatory intelligence, environmental impact studies, air and water quality measurements, and management system support.

These four acquisitions, representing full-year cumulative revenue of €13 million, consolidate SOCOTEC’s operations in countries where it is established as well as its expertise in Certification, Infrastructure and Environment. They contribute to achieving the Group’s stated goal of becoming the European leader in TIC(2) by 2020 in the construction and infrastructure sectors.
