In 2006 ITM Monitoring was contacted by The Morton Partnership to comment on the feasibility of installing a structural monitoring system in Bell Harry Canterbury Cathedral.
Summary of the works
Client: The Dean and Chapter (via The Morton Partnership)
Duration: 2006 – Current
Monitoring System: Cable free tilt sensors, Cable free Crackmeters, ARGUS Monitoring Software.
Condition surveys carried out by The Morton Partnership revealed a number of cracks in the tower, which required a monitoring regime to check for ongoing propagation. As a solution ITM Monitoring proposed a system of wireless sensors communicating back to a data logger, which in turn pushed the data into ARGUS via a GSM modem. To ensure minimum visual impact all installed sensors were painted in a colour to match the Lepine stone of the Cathedral.
